The Council on Public Policy is an American-European non-governmental and nonpartisan think tank. It was established in September 2001 by a group of editors, scholars and executives. The Council's mission is
- to strengthen individual liberty by advocating liberal, market-oriented principles in public policy (freedom of decision, competition, and voluntary association), and
- to improve transatlantic relations by correcting perceptions and building a network of fellow campaigners and think tanks on both sides of the Atlantic.
The Council on Public Policy analyzes public policies from a transatlantic perspective and stimulates public discourse by comparing American and European reactions to contemporary issues. It works as an agenda-setting agency and has gained a reputation as an Atlanticist and anti-statist group. The Council is unique in
- conducting comparative American-European public policy studies,
|
- concentrating on long term domestic issues in America and Europe and on the public debate over how to deal with those problems,
- cooperating with the relevant media and building up a network of journalists and publishers.
The Council on Public Policy organizes transatlantic conferences. It publishes the outcomes of its conferences and the findings of its research. It is concentrating on
- Religion and Public Policy (religion and civil society, religion and social thought, religious cultures in America and Europe), and
- The Business of Politics (political reform, reform of the electoral system, career- and recruitment patterns of politicians, judiciary and politics; convergence and divergence of American and European legal traditions, models of social welfare systems).
